Harvest Thanksgiving 2024

Harvest Thanksgiving  2024

We are getting ready for our Harvest Thanksgiving at St Paul's, Sunday 6th October at 10am and hope to collect as many items as possible to support local foodbanks.

If you would like to attend the Harvest Service you will be made very welcome.

We are thanking God for all we have; thanking the people who make such a huge difference in our churches; and thanking our neighbours across the wider community and different organisations for their generosity gifting their time, talents and resources.

So a let’s begin with a few Thank You’s to:

  • The 5th Jarrow Brownies for making two mobile wooden planters for the entrance to St. Peter’s
  • Canon Sheila Bamber, Revd Craig Bentley and Cannon Maggie Devine for their wonderful support  leading services alongside our Ministry Team.
  • The Catherine Cookson Charitable Trust, Priestman Trust, Barbour, All Churches Trust and Sir James Knott Charity and Durham Diocese DAC and anonymous doners for grants in support of buildings manintenance and repairs.
  • Sage Employees who visited St. Paul’s, several times, to tend the churchyard and assist within the building.
  • Local Choir Compass Acappella – they held a concert at St. Simon’s in aid of church funds.
  • Dance and Fitness Instructors Sharon Lamb and Melanie Morrison both donated their services to lead Line Dancing Evening (Sharon)  and Clubb-a-cise Session (Mel) in our Halls at St. John’s and St. Peter’s churches.
  • Andria Williams, Community Champion at Morrison’s Jarrow Store
  • Scaffolding Firm Premier Roofing who help with our display at the Christmas Tree Festival and everyone who created a themed Christmas Tree.

  • Vic Young for always supporting community appeals.
  • Jarrow Choral Society and Musica Johannis for the many concerts held over the years at St. Paul’s and St. Peter’s and their on-going support for the parish.
  • Thank you to Jarrow WI and Red Sky Foundation for the precious gift of a Defibrillator for the local community, at St. Peter’s, now installed.
  • Lord Crewe’s Charity, South Tyneside Council, Inspire South Tyneside, Warm Welcome Spaces, Durham Diocese and The Church of England for grants in support of our ministry and mission in this area.
  • Revd Paul Judson for designing our new logo.

Supporting our Neighbours this Autumn

Our halls are used by lots of community groups and organisations, and all are invited to take part in a Harvest collection for our local foodbanks – and we have collection points in all four churches where anyone can donate long-life foodstuffs and toiletries for Emergency Food Parcels.

Upcoming events you may be able to support this Autumn

We are also fortunate that local choirs, groups and dance teachers hold events to help us raise funds for the upkeep of our four churches and there is a list of upcoming social events below.

With four church buildings across the parish, our buildings are maintained by our volunteers and funds they can raise. In recent years we have received generous gifts – legacies and grants. Wherever we can we employ  local building professionals and we are thankful for their care and consideration when carrying out jobs, large and small.
